During one of my evening strolls in San Miguel de Allende I encountered a group of Mariachi musicians, there was so much joy and buoyancy in their step that I could not resist taking their photo and I wanted to share this image with you.
The other photograph is from an art installation during a conference called “Dreaming and Healing” that I was lucky enough to attend during my time in San Miguel. Among other things, the conference was about increasing our awareness of death, the process of dying and the preparation for death.
The beauty is, that as we become more aware of mortality, we also become more aware of the preciousness and beauty of life and the importance of knowing what it important to us and what we want let go of as we all inevitably at one point will cross that threshold. In our culture there is so much focus on preserving life at all cost and not a lot about allowing for a conscious, dignified and supported transition. There is an emerging movement to change this and educate more and more people about the opportunity for a very different experience. I am contemplating learning more about assisting people in this process. More about this in the future.
In the meantime I will be back in full swing next week to start my spring classes and workshops in Western New York and look forward to reconnect with you after my time away. I am also very excited that I will be offering two summer retreats in Mexico this summer.
